Laurie Participating In Winter Sports??

Winter Sports?? Laurie? It's true. I bought skates!! Yay!! I forgot how much I like skating. I found some affordable skates at Wal-Mart, and tested them at the Marengo rink today after my Physics final. They hurt my ankles, but that's just what happens. I'm actually excited for next year - I'll be able to skate on nice, smooth ice and become spoiled. A few minutes after we (Mac & I) got to the rink, the grade 5 & 6's showed up (which are my favourite class- my cousins and my friend....yes, my 10 year old friend, are in that class) so that was fun. If it had been just me and Mac, we would have murdered each other.

In other news, I have completed my ELA A30 departmental, my Math B30 departmental, my Biol 30 departmental, and my Physics 20 final. I only have one more exam and then it's on to Semester II! My last exam is Info Pro, so it'll be a whiz.

As you may have noticed, if you are touring my Facebook, that my profile picture is of my dog, Comet. As I said in my last post Comet hasn't been doing so well, and we decided last night that it was selfish of us to keep her alive. So this morning mom and dad took her into the vet and she was put down. Mom said that she was very calm and very brave. I am very glad that she is in a better place now. Comet was a awesome dog, and had been through some tough times. I am relieved that she cant suffer any more.
I love you Commie <3

Okay, so a lot has happened since the last day of school before the winter holidays...I had no idea it had been that long.

My Christmas was very good and quiet. Greg and Mere couldn't come down, so it was just Dea, Mac, Mom & Dad and me. And of course Trigger and Comet. Comet isn't doing so good- I don't know how long she's going to last. For my own selfish reasons I hope that it won't be until after exams.

On New Years there was a party at Smiley hall, and I went there with my family and Donna. Greg texted me while he was hanging out with Alexisonfire, but that's life- you can't be everywhere at once.

Once school started again it was time to start cramming in the rest of information we'll need for exams. And we started Drama. This year we're doing a play called  To Absent Friends and I'm not going to give away anything about it.

And I finally told the rest of my class that I won't be going to their grad party. The "don't care", which is a relief, because then I'd have to change all my plans to accommodate them (ha ha not). So I haven't really been hanging out in the lounge lately, but I could honestly care less, because it smells in there.

Mr. H convinced me to go into music festival, and I am playing Golliwogg's Cakewalk by Claude Debussy. It is very....interesting so far so we'll see how that goes.

My Mommy Made a Boo-Boo

No not Yogi Bear's companion (har har). But on my car!! (Mom I am sorry if you are reading this and are mad that I am putting this out there to the universe, but I am bored and am sick of watching TV. Besides, maybe it will inspire a chapter in a future bestseller :D)

Back to my story....

I am still in Marengo, hanging out with Dea. Mainly because there is nothing to do at home but chores. I'd rather help Dea with her chores because her house is much  smaller than ours. Maryanne was also here, but Mom came and picked her up because Mac was invited to go carroling with the Olsons. She's probably freezing her tush off, but she does have ski pants.

I am easily distracted.

So mom came in while Mac was gathering her stuff, and we talked about stuff. Then they left and I didn't expect to hear from them for a while. But a few seconds later I can hear my Mom's voice.

"Laurie, I hit your car." She was so calm I was positive I heard her wrong.

"You did what?"

"I hit your car while I was backing out."

Sure enough she did. The back door on the passenger's side is all crumpled in. It works fine and everything, but I was so proud of my care being (nearly) dent free. She hit it with so much force that its now parked crooked on the road, and knocked slightly off the road into the snow.

I blame the town of Marengo (ahem, Mr. Mayor Bob Lee) for not plowing the Duplex street. If they did it would be less icy,

I'm just glad that no one was hurt, the damage is minimal, and I didn't hit her, because my head would be on a silver platter right now.

Who knows, maybe it will make my defroster work better. (I'm an optomist, what can I say)

Last day of High School in 2007

Hoorah!!

It was nothing special.

First Class I finished burning the Yearbooks and did some questions on fetal pig anatomy (yesterday we disected them....lets just say I can't eat pork for a while).

Second Class I wrote an ELA test on The Secret Lives Of Sgt. John Wilson and handed out the yearbooks.

Third Class I did a little relaxing and played Name That Tune/Jeopardy/Cranium with the rest of my row. We totally did not have a fair chance at all- we would have dominated otherwise. Afterwards Mr. Hillier was tellng me what categories I should of picked. Like it will help me NOW! Sheesh.

After lunch (which consisted of me and Michelle stealing my sister's Mp3 player and dancing around to songs no one could hear, and me and Mr. Hillier having a strange conversation about Jesus (H- "They're's Christmas eggs" Me-"Yah, there's Jesus eggs" H-"I don't thing Jesus laid eggs...") it was Christmas carnival time.

Christmas carnival is not all its cracked up to be. I spent the majority of my time singing Karoke....I didn't have to run anything, which was relieving.

Then me and Mac came over to Dea's and decorated Christmas cookies and had supper at the Roadkill Cafe. (That's seriously what its called.....Mary, I'll take you there when you visit.) And eventually I wandered down to the highspeed computer and watched New Pornographers music videos.

And now my day is done. I am exhausted for not doing much. After the "Challengers" video and icing those cookies, I am going to be dreaming with vivid pink goo, I know it.

Ick.

Spare etc

I have spare, but instead of doing anything  remotely productive (like my editorial on domestic violence, my Srgt. John Wilson Essay or my Lit. Circle for English, or my math that I have to do over the Christmas holidays) I am listening to X929.ca and making an Arcade Fire icon.

The Alexisonfire concert was awesome (which was a week ago)....I still have a few bruises. Donna and I were right on the security fence the whole time. I got a few good pictures and videos. It was pretty awesome. (Plus, last Wednesday, I talked to George Pettit, the lead singer. I nearly peed my pants)

I should stop procrastinating, but there is only 20 minutes yet, but I need to supervise today for Ashley, so she can take my shift on Tuesday.

Take this test!

People who are drawn to writing and journalism typically desire to communicate with people outside of their personal circles. Whether it's their own personal beliefs or not, they have a knack for articulating a message in a way that resonates with other people. They understand and appreciate the power of the written word and its abilities to shape other people's ideas. Many people in these professions may see themselves as interpreters in some way. They are able to put into words what some of us can only feel.

Here is Michelle before....

And after!

Oh, and we had a What The Heck Are You Wearing Day. This is how I did my hair and make-up. I had an ugly outfit, but didn't get a picture of it. I love the make-up, but its a little bold. It's like something you would see in a fashion magazine.

and I had some...different....socks to top it all off

Livejournal Stuff

Okay, well I have a new theme and a new default userpic. Which is leaning towards my thinking that I might just get a whole new blog about writing. But maybe I'll save it for this summer, and make it about learning to be a journalist or something. I don't know. I really don't want to get rid of all these great entries I've written, but I hate my username. And I don't want to pay to have to change it.

Which comes to my next decision- what am I going to name my new blog/journal if I get a new one. Because my current username is pretty stupid. Damn me and my rash decision. Hopefully I will think over baby names if I ever have children....

Okay, portfolio time. I am currently writing one piece, have no idea what to write for the second piece, and need to research for the third. The first one I am writing is a review on the music video "Life Of A Solider" by illScarlett. An excerpt-

"Never has such a highly anticipated music video disappointed me as much as the video for illScarlett’s “Life Of A Soldier“... "

The piece has to be somewhere between 250 and 500 words, and I'm currently under 170. Eek.

The third piece was decided by the college. It is about why I think journalism is the pillar of democracy, and what qualities make a good journalist. So Greg and Amy, expect me to be asking you a lot of questions! Also, I may survey some Encounters Alumni of mine.

And for all of those who like Kayne West's "Stronger" (ahem, Rachelle and my dear, dear sister) check out "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk (released in 2001). It's basically the good part of the song (so I think) , without Kanye West.

Why Am I Still Awake?!?!?

  • Nov. 20th, 2007 at 11:11 PM
atu

It's 11:20. I am never awake this late.  This is insane.

Well, not really. It is parent-teacher interviews tomorrow, so there is no school. I think they are pretty pointless for me. The new teachers just want to get to know my parents (aka Mom, as Dad is in North Battleford).

So tomorrow I am going to Sarcan to take in recycables for the bottle drive, because I haven't done it yet, and I don't do ANYTHING (according to Queens A & J) to contribute to grad. Whatever. It's not my fault that we are so unorganized that I don't even know what is going on (apparently we are getting a limo). Maybe they should stop deciding things in the lounge and start deciding them at grad meetings, like they are supposed to. Honestly, sometimes I think they cut me out on purpose. Geez.. Well they are going to get a shoker from me come June, ha ha ha (Evil laughs just aren't the same when you type them).

Some things I am currently counting down:

Alexisonfire: 16 days

Christmas: 34 days

Lost: 77 days

Mary's Visit: 121 days

Drama Festival: 142 days

The Wedding: 164 days

Grad: 219 days

Days I've Been Alive (because that's interesting): 6,308 days, 22 hours and 45 minutes (as of 11:30 pm)

Things to do (relatively soon):

Finish Millenium Scholarship and get references

Self-declare marks for Grant MacEwan for Early/Conditional Acceptance

Send in MacEwan residence application

Send in portfolio for MacEwan

Speaking of my portfolio, I have to do three works. 2 works (one can be creative) of 250 - 500 words. Right now I am working on a review of the illScarlett music video "Life Of A Soldier" and I have no idea what to do the other on. Or how to finish my review.
The third work is writing that is 500 words, that answers "Why is Journalism considered the pillar of democracy.", "What do you think consitutes 'good journalism' (give examples)" and "What personal attributes and intrests make a person a good journalist?"
The portfolio instructions recomends you research the subject and talk to a journalist. Luckily my sister's best friend is a print journalist, and my brother is news director for X92.9 fm in Calgary.

I'm sorry that my journal titles are song lyrics, but they're so damn fitting.

So I had a slightly better day yesterday. Whih means no one acused me of cutting them out. Mrs Chudyck was still away, so I'm going to have to talk to her on Monday. And if she has a problem with how I ran the meeting, then she has to realise that I can't be the one policing the kids. That is what I was afraid of. And when I am supposed to have three staff members in there with me (Mrs Chudyck, Ms Cavanah and Mr Hagel) and only get one because they had more pressing matters (which I totally understand), then there has to be substitutes or something. Because somehow I got stuck with the disruptive kids and a laid back teacher, which is not a good combination.

So yesterday I pretty much just avoided the lounge (luckily it was a day I had to supervise , so I got to have a chit chat with Becky. I love Becky.) and didn't talk to the rest of my class unless it was abolutley nessecary. According to Michelle, Jeannine (M's sister) ws still pretty mad at me. Which was to be expected, seeing as I surprised her and stood up for myself for once.

After school I went to the "Great Metropolis of Kindersley.", as Mr. Kosior calls it, and hung out. I got some make-up, flat ion spray, a magazine, and some candy for bio class, and some on-sale Halloween candy (what can I say?? It was cheap and I've got a little fat kid trapped inside me). Oh, an a led Zepplin poster. I am slowly Lauriefying (it's a wor, look it up!) my room. I'll post pictures because its what I do.

So, spending money made me feel better.  Then I met up with Dea, who was with Naomi (spelled it right this time) and then we went to Naomi's sister's house to do N's hair for her date w/ her husband. Well, Dea did her hair, I just hung out. Then Dea and I went to DQ for supper, then I went home, grabbed Pride and Preudice, and headed back to Dea's. I got sidetracked as I gosipped with Rachelle and Mac about V-ball and their team mates.

So now it's 8:45, and I am drinking a ginormous (sp??) Pepsi and typing up my aftermath on Dea's laptop. Man, I love my life. Seriously. Because if anything, it will make for good reading for somebody.

Living is easy with eyes closed

I'm about ready to sew mine shut.

So, I was having a pretty kick ass day (which is normal by anyone else's standards). Band was hilarious (I seriously think Mr. Hillier was on a sugar high or something. He was crazier than usually. Random blabbering and singing and prancing. A little bit like Mary L, actually. But back on topic now....)

Until about lunch. I had to go make an announcement about soccer intermurals, and I guess I was a little to loud for precious 'I'm a fucking princess' Amber's ears, so she of course had to make a little dig about it. It went something like this:

Amber: (to Michelle) Oh, my GOD!! I was, like so excited that it was November because that means its your turn to do the announcements. I knew it was different because it wasn't so loud. It was quiet. You were so amazing.

Michelle: Um...thanks.

Me: (fumes)

What the hell did I do to her?? I really wanted to say "Well, at least I can read." She seriously reads SOO SLOW! It's agony. Yes, I stumble over my words and spit out terrible (and funny) little mistakes, but I'm human. So sue me.

And then in Math we left early to go do SRC meetings. (Our school is split into 3 separate SRC’s. I've explained it before, so if you get confused, check it out.)

And I was doing the meeting, and my group was in charge of October, so we were having a wrap up meeting. And I was going over the old business, which included the dance (which was a flop, but that was expected), the taco sale (went good) and the (cancelled) Halloween activities.

When I got to the Halloween activities, the shit hit the fan. I started talking about how it got cancelled, and Jeannine was all like "Yah, I was supposed to be in charge of that, but you totally cut me out of it."

Now, if any one has talked to me the last month, I was pretty stressed out of my mind, because I felt like I was doing everything!! I would have appreciated any help I could have got. She actually told me that she didn’t want to do the haunted house anymore because she would be working with the little kids. She, of course, denied it.

So I actually stood up for myself I told her all this. Then I proceeded with the meeting, but it went downhill fast. People weren’t paying attention to me, and no one had any ideas for February (our next month) and Mr. Hagel just kinda sat there and did nothing (He should have kept order. He’s the teacher).

So I gave them a little ‘anti-pep-talk’, which was very negative. I kinda yelled at the older kids, because they just weren’t being good leaders for the older kids. They were acting like all the failures of the month were my fault, but they weren’t. They can’t expect me to do everything. And I wish I wasn’t so negative because Mrs. Chudyck already had a talk with me about it. But I’ m a realist. I can’t pretend like everything is all sunshine and rainbows when it’s not.

So after the meeting I didn’t even bother going in the lounge because I knew they would be talking shit about me, and I don’t need that to my face. To be honest, I would have started crying. So I stood in the hallway talking to another president (Michelle, mentioned above), her VP, my VP, my sister (another VP) and Rachelle, who is on my team.

And Mrs. Chudyck wasn’t there for the meeting, and I know that tomorrow she’s going to ask me how it went. And I’m not gonna lie, I’ll just tell her exactly what happened.

And I am so worried that Mrs. Chudyck is going to kick me off SRC for this!!

I’m so depressed that I’m listeing to MCR.
